Score Bands
Scores run from 350 to 850 — a FICO-compatible scale. The engine maps scores to five risk bands and derives the default decision from each band. Your risk policy can adjust the thresholds that separate these bands.
| Score Range | Band | Typical Decision | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| 800 – 850 | VERY_LOW_RISK | APPROVED | Full approval at requested amount and tenor. |
| 700 – 799 | LOW_RISK | APPROVED | Full approval. May trigger manual review if near the 700 boundary. |
| 600 – 699 | MEDIUM_RISK | COUNTER_OFFER | May be approved at a reduced amount or extended tenor based on affordability. |
| 500 – 599 | HIGH_RISK | MANUAL_REVIEW | Sent to a human underwriter before a decision is issued. |
| 350 – 499 | VERY_HIGH_RISK | REJECTED | Does not meet minimum credit criteria. |
A score of 350 is the baseline — every application starts here and earns points upward. A final score at or near 350 means very few points were earned, or that a hard knockout rule (identity mismatch, active default, income below minimum) terminated scoring early. Always check
risk_factors for the specific reason.MANUAL_REVIEW can fire at any score band
The table above shows default outcomes per band. Three additional conditions can override an APPROVED decision and send it to manual review regardless of score:
Borderline scoreScore is within 20 points of any decision threshold (e.g. 680–720 straddles the 700 approve floor). The buffer prevents over-confident approvals near boundary zones.
High-value loanRequested amount exceeds ₦500,000. High-value loans require a human underwriter sign-off regardless of score.
Limited transaction historyFewer than 20 transactions across all linked accounts. Insufficient data for the engine to score confidently.
When any of these fire, the decision field will be MANUAL_REVIEW and manual_review_reasons will list exactly which condition(s) triggered it.
